About this listen
My heart's about to get wrangled in Chad's wicked little game.
I left behind my countryside hometown of Spruce, Texas and my teenage tormentor Chad Landry to start over, pursue a career, and make a new name for myself.
Fast forward 10 years, and I'm back in Spruce for my high school reunion to confront my past and to face the boy who made my teen years hell. I'm no longer the vulnerable teenager I once was, and I'll guarantee you this: Chad won't have any power over me.
But all the mental preparation in the world couldn't possibly prepare me for the sight of the hot, gorgeous, and hunky rancher that Chad has become, nor the secret he's been waiting 10 long years to tell me.
Chad's got things to say. And I've got a score to settle.
Someone's poor little heart is about to get wrangled in a game it is sure to lose.
Contains mature themes.

I’m not sure how Chad copes with Lance
Sure Chad was a prick at high school but 10 years later Lance is still hard work. Chad is reformed and apologises over and over. I’m not sure how the warm hearted Chad falls in love for the pretty unlikeable Lance but he does. Well crafted by Daryl Banner and very well performed by Chris Chambers. The opposites attract trope is in play here and is enjoying even allowing for Lance’s continual moaning. Well worth a listen.

Wanted to slap Lance for most of the book
Well done to the writer and narration. The writer paints a glorious picture of the scenes and characters. So much so I feel total distain for the whiny self obsessed Lance. What a gnarly bitter queen. and despite the obvious fantasy aspects of the book, he is reflective of so many bully impacted people in reality. Get over it and grow up I say to myself as I listen. However what I loved the most was that the writer (coupled with thoughtful narration) evoked such emotion. Clever.

Lance’s understandable anger made this heavy-going
Lance Goodwin left Spruce, Texas as soon as he finished high school having been systematically bullied by Chad Landry and his friends throughout. It’s the 10-yr high school reunion and Lance has come back with revenge in his heart to flaunt his success as an LA fashion designer. When Chad seeks Lance out to try and mend fences, Lance can’t believe the secret Chad shares with him. This was harder to love than previous books in the series: bullying stories are important but uncomfortable and Lance, understandably still angry and neurotic, is not a sympathic character as he spreads his resentment far and wide. There’s a fine line between sassy and bitchy, and Lance’s ungraciousness crosses the line and that weighs down the story, which is only told from his POV. It’s a tall order for Chad to expect quick forgiveness and Lance actually is quite gracious in this regard - I wasn’t sure I was convinced by their dynamic. What I found really weird was Chad’s continued reluctance to come out in a town which has been overwhelmingly supportive of gay people. He said he couldn’t stand gossip about him but he constantly stoked that speculation by not coming out - if he’d have ripped the bandage off, the town would have moved on quickly. Audio narrator Chris Chambers voiced Lance well, but I missed the dual narration of the previous audios.
