About this listen
"The final battle is just the beginning".
Jacob Riverson, Regina Whitetremor, and Serah Brightwaters have assembled the greatest army the Northern Wasteland has ever achieved, but it still may not be enough. The tyrant, Empress Morwen, has gathered all of the forces of the Southern Continent to invade, along with an army of airships and enslaved divine spirits. It is a battle that will determine the fate of all three worlds.
But is the battle a cover for something much worse? After a horrifying disaster, Jacob is left broken and injured in a way that he's never felt before. His powers weakened and his spirit spent, he receives an offer that he cannot afford to refuse. But this deal comes with allies he cannot trust, and a cure that may be worse than the disease.

The most epic one yet!
This book was even more epic than all of the previous books combined! I should also say first up that you definitely need to have listened to the other books first.
On that note, I was initially unsure about the new narrator, but I have to say his voice was pretty perfect for a Wraith. He really grew on me, and by the end I think I like him more.
There's some stuff that will help refresh your memory if it's been a while between books, but you shouldn't start listening from that one.
Anyway, this book starts with an epic battle between the forces of "good and evil", a really complex concept, as previous readers will know. As before, the themes of what's truly good and evil, versus what's moral are so well explored in this series (especially this write a whole philosophy dissertation on it and they wouldn't cover it all.
As to the plot, I can't spoil any of the twists, so I'll just say it starts out in a massive, end of the world Tolkien-esque battle between the forces of Light and Dark. And for a while it's all frenetic, well crafted action and battle that really excited me and genuinely had my heart racing.
Then things happen and the whole story rotates in ways I never saw coming. I won't spoil more than that. Except possibly to say that the book also explores more about the 'Higher Realms' concept that was touched upon in the first books, and I loved the peeks behind the curtain.
The dialogue and action were the standouts of the book, but I really liked how the characters always act how they realistically would act in those situations. They don't do things just to advance the plot, and that's something that made them feel real to me.
All in all, this was a phenomenal story, and I was blown away by the twists and developments.
If you've read the other books, do yourself a favour and read this one, it's the best yet!
