About this listen
Nadine Bayani was at the top of her game. The brilliant, ruthless lawyer was in line to be White House chief of staff - until she confessed to campaign finance crimes that cost her party the election.
Now Nadine's out of prison, broke, hated by millions, and stuck doing a menial retail job in rural Virginia where she barely earns enough to survive.
Bella Clarke has worked at Overstock Oasis since she flunked college. She wants to go back to school but secretly doubts she's smart enough. At least she's not as clueless as her boss, who just accidentally hired the woman responsible for a national scandal.
However, Nadine seems to be nothing like the crook portrayed in the media, and Bella is drawn to her troubled, standoffish coworker. As they grow closer, Nadine introduces Bella to the delights of Filipino food and opens Bella's eyes to her own possibilities.
Before long, about the only thing harder to make sense of than Nadine's past is their powerful chemistry together. Is Bella really falling for a woman who caused so much harm? And even if she is, how can two such different people ever be a match?
Contains mature themes.

Thoroughly enjoyable opposites attract story. Anastasia Watley brought all of the author's characters to life for me. This makes me want to read more titles by Quinn Riley!

Drawn right in
Loved both the story and narration and was drawn right in from the first ‘page’. Couldn’t put this one down.
I love it when authors present and allow the reader to explore and deepen their understanding of important and difficult subjects and this book did a brilliant job of this.
This was combined with a really well written, engaging story with characters I got to love and ‘feel with’. What more could you want!
Anastasia Watley is my number 1 favourite narrator and I discovered this author through searching for more of Anastasia’s work. Fabulous discovery, I’ll definitely be reading more by Quinn!

A thought provoking love story
It’s the small and large issues of life which Quinn Ivins writes about in this book that engage the reader. The drudgery of some jobs that many people work at every single day, but are unable to escape from, because they are caught in a circle of trying to make a living. The corruption of politics that affects the very basic necessities of people’s lives.
This story also touches on issues such as insecurity regarding body image, betrayal and redemption, understanding and empathy, the disturbing facts of poverty vs the cost of medical coverage in the US. It also brings to light how the system is geared so that some ex felons will always fail when they leave jail.
It’s also about how one person believing in you can make all of the difference. All of these weave together a heart wrenching love story that will leave you thinking about the themes of the book in days to come. Love the narrator Anastasia Whatley.
Then there’s Bella. I so empathise with her.
