About this listen
Their world isn't quite what it seems. It might not be a world at all...
Udo's biggest problem isn't being a digger (that's low class), or staying drunk (that's damn expensive), or avoiding the Dwergaz (they're monsters), or even pissing off the supposed Gods.
It's that his reality...well, it isn't what he thought.
And now, he can't even afford to drink because his so-called friend Nicz is cutting into his business, digging up tin, iron, and copper. So Udo forms a new plan: clay. After all, clay jars are used to store everything: meat, herbs, and, his personal favorite, ale.
But in his hunt for clay, Udo drills too far, is captured by the Dwergaz, and brought to the goddess Ing - or what he believes is a goddess. As Udo digs deeper into his world, and not just by digging holes, what he discovers is far beyond mountains and gods and monsters.
There may be other worlds beyond his. Worlds surrounding other stars. In fact, his own home may not be a world at all.
Udo the Digger bends the tropes of science fiction and fantasy into a wild adventure that will amuse and surprise even veterans of both genres. It's perfect for fans of Arthur C. Clarke's Rama, Horizon Zero Dawn, Aurora, and Book of the Long Sun.

Gritty just how i like
No holes bared, a close dissection of human agency good and bad, set a feudal society with a scfi twist. Dark examination of human nature with an interesting story.. and RC Bray..

Loved it - Brilliant story
I don't often write reviews but will for this. I got this one without reading anything about it and am so happy I did, I have read many generational /star ship books, from Rama to the forgotten series and loved them, this is told from quite a unique perspective, by a man who has been brutalized his whole life since he was very young, living in a brutal world. Some reviewers say the language used is crude and unnecessary but I think it fits the character perfectly. Sometimes crude but Author creates a beautiful descriptive narrative. Some say they are sorry the reader of the audio book had to read it because it's crude in places but I recon he loved it because it is so different and expect its one he'll remember if asked. I haven't the words to explain how well the author uses words to paint a brilliant story. There are a couple of hints dropped through out the story of a bigger picture. I had to pause and go back when "log insertion" was dropped unexpectedly, I think he wrote this with it being an audio book in mind, he refers to the listener not the reader a couple of times and the guy telling the story... Damn he's good. The combination of the brilliant story and the brilliant story teller... Magic. I'm going to get his other books now.

Interesting
I loved R.C. Bray as always and after seeing that he recommended this title I thought I’d give it a go and was not disappointed. The story is totally different from the book cover but it is laying the foundation towards a big reveal hopefully in book two but hints are given away towards the end and all is not what you think. Highly recommend this book.

wow simply wow
never have I listened to a book that made me ask so many questions from the beginning to the very end, not the annoying questions that tickle the back of your mind but with questions that may or may not lead to amazing possibilities and discoveries. That may not make sense but I'm not one for words so you'll have to listen to find out and make up you own mind. brilliant as always Mr Rc bray. On a final note its absolutely excellent that Mr Joshua gayou can be so diverse with his writing from commune (also a brilliant series) to this book I find myself in awe of his writing skills. thank you both for the escape and adventure.

Bit of crass slog at times
The first 3 hours was pointless and seemed more like padding. The scence setting could have been done much more concisely.

Never gets started
Unlikable character I could not listen to any more, made worse by the fact that very little happens.
