Set novel for class
Since the novel is set for my Year 9 Alternative English class (work modified to their level) next unit, I listened with the view of whether the students would have sufficient historical and social emotional knowledge to pick up on events, social mores and their implications alluded to throughout the novel. it touches on so many themes including class, gender, control, power, environment, knowledge, education, basic human needs, relationships etc. We'll need a fair bit of discussion to point out these. I'll be reminding them and making links to their history lessons around the Industrial Revolution. Terrific narration.
