About this listen

In the zombie apocalypse, your worst enemy may be yourself.

Rose Winter has enough problems. With a marriage going down the tubes and a dreaded anniversary party on the horizon, the last thing she needs is the zombie apocalypse. She wanted to get drunk and sing karaoke, not murder her undead neighbors. It’s clear the party’s over, however, now Rose has more problems - a missing husband, an overbearing houseguest, and keeping her family alive.

Tom Jensen has inflexible rules. Rule number one? Don’t deviate from the plan. But when his life is overturned in the space of minutes, his plans die along with everything else. The world is finished, the future is uncertain, and survival means living in the last place he’d planned to be. Maybe his rules weren’t meant to be broken, but if he can’t change his tune, he risks losing the one thing he has left - his daughter.

Craig Matthews has a mission: get to Oregon. Doable, maybe, if he could bring himself to leave his apartment. With his food and water near gone and death closer than ever, a chance encounter may lead to finding his friends - if he can first find his courage.

Unfortunately, the new world doesn’t always mean leaving old problems behind, and as the West Coast succumbs to the virus, the survivors face more than the undead - they face themselves. But in an existence where fences offer dubious safety and zombies certain danger, people may save you in more ways than one.

A great listen

Well rounded characters and a more realistic telling than lots of Post apocalyptic novels. A romance blossoming amongst the chaos of the zombie uprising.

Good story, little slow burning tho

Pretty good, worth the listen. Authors dislike/jealousy of younger attractive women pretty obvious though.

Seems to relish in putting down men for having preferences but then often goes on about women’s preference for bigger taller men. A bit strange

Slow starting but intriguing

A bit of a slow starter and took me a while to get through it but I enjoyed the middle to end thoroughly. It is Part of a series, which I didn't know but I'm looking forward to the next part/s

There were times where I got lost but that might have just been my own fault. I didn't find my heart racing very often but I was surprised in some places.

Prepare to binge

Absolutely brilliantly written and performed, a tale from the apocalypse that details ordinary people’s lives as they are rapidly overtaken by events. Realistic, entertaining with well developed characters you come to love, it’s not filled with endless descriptions of weapons, military men and women, but has enough gore to keep the genre pure. Guttered the second part hasn’t been written yet. If you loved ‘all the stars’ novels, you will love this. One of the best audios I’ve been entertained by since March 2019.

Immersive experience!

This book was a lucky find. I'm so glad that I did commit to finishing it.
The characters are so well crafted that they feel like people you know.
The story was fast paced, the action engaging, and humour is sprinkled generously throughout.
I went through a whole range of emotions as I listened, I was cheering, grieving, dashing, shouting, and laughing from start to finish.
Finally, a zompoc book that has characters I can identify with.
Highly recommended.

Pretty good

All in all pretty solid novel. A bit slow in some parts but just push through ... the slow parts are important though.

Character voice consistency

Excellent book and reading but it would be great to have the narraters read each chapter together so that the voices of each character are consistent through out the book (like in the City Series).
