About this listen
The exquisite new novel from Lucy Treloar, best-selling author of Salt Creek.
For years Kitty Hawke has lived alone on Wolfe Island, witness to the island’s erosion and clinging to the ghosts of her past. Her work as a sculptor and her wolfdog Girl are enough. News of mainland turmoil is as distant as myth until refugees from that world arrive: her granddaughter Cat, and Luis and Alejandra, a brother and sister escaping persecution. When threats from the mainland draw closer, they are forced to flee for their lives. They travel north through winter, a journey during which Kitty must decide what she will do to protect the people she loves.
Part western, part lament for a disappearing world, Wolfe Island (set off the northeast coast of the US) is a transporting novel that explores connection and isolation and the ways lives and families shatter and are remade.

A Treasure I didn’t want to end
I adored listening to this book and the perfect narration. The narrative leaves so many questions unanswered but that is ok. The world is apocalyptic-the rising sea engulfs the land & the salt seeps into fertile land leaving it desolate. The humans too are apocalyptic- evil, corrupt, mean, stingy, murderous. And yet Wolfe Island is also a gentle story of love and survival; art & the beauty of nature; family & doing what one has to save that precious family.
One question for the Australian author: why not place this story in Australia? Why America? Surely the same would happen here but do we not wish to think so?

Stunning! Pure Joy
This will be a memorable book for me, so beautifully written and narrated. Every phrase carefully constructed to enrich the knowing of the main character. The best read I’ve had for 2019.

Brilliant book
Beautifully read. Love the images that this books conjures. The story of love, loss and struggle is brilliant. The characters are very well written and you can relate to one or the other. Five stars to Lucy for creating a beautiful little world I could retreat to.
