About this listen
A door is a rectangular shaped piece of wood with a metal handle on it. It’s in every home. People use them hundreds of times a day. To an agoraphobic, the door can be very scary. It opens to a world of fear, torture, and uncertainty. It’s not necessarily what’s on the other side of the door, but what my body and mind do when I step over that threshold. I’m brutally attacked by my own mind and body, usually with no explanation. That uncertainty of my bodies’ reaction is what keeps me behind that door.
I become a prisoner of my own home. I become a prisoner of my own mind. I am someone with an illness, I fight through the bad days and cherish the good days. I’m here to tell my story of failure, victory, and the struggle to have the strength to wake up every day and fight to live my life to the best I can.
