About this listen
The prophecy was clear. Upon the death of three kings, the world will be plunged into chaos, and all the castout demons of history will return to bring blood and horror to the world. Two of the kings are dead. The third, about to be born, is hunted by the Demon Riders of the Krayakin, Lords of the Undead.
All the terrifying forces of evil range against a pregnant queen at bay in a haunted forest. But she is not alone. Three warriors stand with her, the last remnants of the once proud Drenai army. Three old men, ancient heroes, discarded by the king: Nogusta the Swordsman, Kebra the Bowman, and the hulking fighter, Bison. The fate of empires rests on their fading skills as they journey through a tormented world on a perilous quest to save the unborn king.

Amazing characters
l loved listening. Shawn Baret is an amazing performer. Sadly this is the last Dreni novel and the other books have a different reader who l don't think is as good. l had a little cry in this book. The characters are so real.

Another enjoyable tale from a Master.
I've probably read or listened to all of David Gemmells books by now, many of them several times. The Drenai series is a firm favourite, full of all the action, fantasy, magic and heroism I've come to love in the genre. Sean Barrett's masterful narration, his uncanny ability to flesh out characters with his wonderful voice heightens the story to an engrossing level. All in all, this is an excellent story, perfectly performed and will be a constant favourite in my library.

Great adventure story
I am a big fan of this series and of Sean Barrett. In fact searching his name lead me to this great series. I particularly enjoyed this one. Nice balance of action and intrigue, characters interesting as usual.
Well worth the time.

A Gemmell tale worth at least one listen
A stalwart fan of the Drenai series, unfortunately, Winter Warriors does not bring the same level of excitement, scene setting and pace of the other books. Gemmell is usually so meaningful with the characters he places into his stories, however I had great difficulty understanding the choice of certain side characters and their necessity within the greater narrative. There was too many moving parts in this novel for me to be emotionally invested in the quest or characters. This is the first and only time I’ve ever been glad to reach the end of one of Gemmell’s story’s. However, certainly worth at least one listen to complete the series and Sean Barrett always brings an incredible performance.

couldn't get through it.
I used to love David gemell books but found this too black and white, too fantastical and too contrived. I thought this would be a great listen but to my surprise I really struggled and ultimately gave up.
