About this listen

Growing up as a fat kid is hard. Growing up as a fat and gay kid in a religious community is extra hard. William J. Ufton recalls his early childhood navigating trauma, mental health issues, and issues surrounding food.

William grew up in a privileged community on the southern banks of Lake Ontario in Canada. Despite William's predetermined privilege in society, his life brought forth issues outside of his family's perfect appearance.

For the first time, William purges some of his darkest secrets around binge eating episodes, internal struggles, and relationship issues. Binge Eating Disorder or "BED" caused years worth of damage to William's mental and physical health. BED stripped him of so many healthy and fun experiences. It was up to William to retake that power from BED.

Despite losing weight after years of failed diets and unhealthy methods, William had to still learn to fall back in love with himself. Losing weight did not fix William's mental relationship with his body, despite fitting into a more socially acceptable body type"
