About this listen
A London cycle courier with a taste for adventure, Emily Chappell entered an extraordinary new race - The Transcontinental - in which riders must find their own way, entirely unassisted, across Europe in the shortest time possible. On her second attempt, she won the women's event, covering nearly 4,000 miles in 13 days and 10 hours, sleeping in short bursts wherever exhaustion took her.
In the aftermath of a win that troubled as much as pleased her she worked with Mike Hall, the founder of the race, until his tragic death on the road.
Where There's a Will is a book about a normal person finding the capacity to do something extraordinary; the paradoxes of comradeship, competition, vulnerability and will and the shock of grief, combined in a beautifully written and very human story.

So much more than cycling
I loved this book. Emily describes the mental process of endurance riding in a way I've never heard before. But this book isn't just about cycling. It's about grief, and loss, and recovery and success in all their messy, complex glory.

Bikepacking insight
A great insight into what it takes to get through these ultra long races. Also a very personal and honest perspective of the struggles these super humans still face.

A journey through an Ultra Cyclist
I loved this book, as a relatively new Ultra rider myself I was looking forward to reading about how a top endurance rider andcracer goes about their craft. This was my reading of choice as my first IndiPac approached, I was surprised to learn that all the anxiety and doubt so feel is also something a top rider like Emily experiences too. Emily is totally honest and really gives a warts and all commentary on her forays into ultra endurance. My heart bled for her when she lost her great friend Mike Hall, as a community it was devastating the right let alone as one of his closest friends, there was definitely a mutual love and respect there between the two of them, it was heart warming and heartbreaking as it developed knowing what was coming, yes I know it would and could never be a love affair but it doesn't have to be to be a lice story.
This book is compellingvreading and I heartily recommend it and Emily Chappell, thanks for letting us in and may the road ride to meet you.
