With the human-Shiravan treaty on the line, Kitty Hawke must violently end a mutiny aboard one of her ships. Afterwards, she leaves Shiravi, bound for Earth after being away for two years. Marsha Kane replaces Kitty as the head of the human fleet in Shiravan space, but she has her own plans on how to end the war with the Garmon, formerly called the Korvil.

Meanwhile, the humans and Shiravan take the fight to the Garmon, destroying their ships and decimating their worlds, and it seems as if the war is nearing its end. I loved the Rise of the Republic series, all it's ups and downs, the tension between all the various factions and the star trek-esk learning of eachothers cultures and what each species finds strange of the other.

The combat/space battles were great too, keeping away that sense of invincibility that despite their advances the human fleets are still vulnerable.

But I finished the fourth book and I just want more, I feel like there's so much more to tell about this universe, they even set up long living characters so a new series could take place 100 years in the future and still have Simon and kitty with loads of possible situations.

Loved the series...but...

i like how there is moore then 1 or 2 heros in this storie even the bad guys have some good points

I very much liked this series, and it's sad that there won't be any more to continue several of the storylines
