About this listen

Max is back! New husband, new job, and a training regime that cannot fail - to go wrong!

Take one interim chief training officer, add five recruits, mix with Joan of Arc, a baby mammoth, a duplicitous father of history, a bombed rat, Stone Age hunters, a couple of passing policemen who should have better things to do, and Dick the Turd. Stir well, bring to the boil and wait for the bang!

Join Max in the sixth instalment in the off-the-wall Chronicles of St Mary's series.

Critic Reviews

"[Narrator Zara] Ramm wears her characters' voices like old friends, smoothly dipping into blunt East End accents and coarser tones for the gentlemen." ( AudioFile)

Excellent as Always

I simply love this series. I can't fault it - in parts: amusing, intriguing, presumably accurate in the history (I'm shamefully ignorant in that department, so I wouldn't know), coherent, and entertaining.

I recommend this series to everyone, but do suggest you start at the beginning to benefit from all the little quips and references along the way.

And the narrator is perfect again.

Love it!

I agree that it is full of mayhem and mistakes are made, so that people die but this is fantasy. I love the drama, humour, stories and especially the narrator, Zara is just so perfect for the role.

Nice to hear my qualms about the series addressed.

One of the new trainees, a Mr Hoyle, speaks exactly my own thoughts of the unprofessional approach of the history department. Max ofcourse sees red and won't take it in. But truthfully they are not the right people for this time travelling job, or at least they all need way more training, structure and discipline. Because without it, people are dying all the time. So many lives lost due to stupid errors. I don't know how Max still has a job. The story is compelling with powerful action and emotion. Yet is let down by the lack of expertise shown by the time travellers. In real life St Mary's would have been shutdown for dangerous incompetence. It's all fun and games until you lose a key staff member every jump.
