UNLEASH 2023’S BIGGEST DEBUT

*A BBC 2 BETWEEN THE COVERS BOOK CLUB PICK

*Cosmopolitan's Best Books for 2023

KATE, 2019

Kate flees London – abandoning everything – for Cumbria and Weyward Cottage, inherited from her great-aunt. There, a secret lurks in the bones of the house, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

VIOLET, 1942

Violet is more interested in collecting insects and climbing trees than in becoming a proper young lady. Until a chain of shocking events changes her life forever.

ALTHA, 1619

Altha is on trial for witchcraft, accused of killing a local man. Known for her uncanny connection with nature and animals, she is a threat that must be eliminated.

But Weyward women belong to the wild. And they cannot be tamed…

Weaving together the stories of three women across five centuries, Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

Did not come up for breath until it was over!

A wonderful story thing 3 women together through family, a love of nature and the sanctuary of an English cottage passed down generations. I love stories with dual timelines and this one had three! Not difficult to follow and all came together beautifully in the final chapters. Highly recommend

Something to get lost in

I loved the interwoven narratives that span across time. The narrators were great and really helped me to envision the characters. A fantastic story if you just want to get lost for a while.

A captivating tale across generations

I truly loved this book. I was gripped by the story from the opening chapter and became more intrigued as each character was introduced. The tales of the main characters are woven together in such a way that the story unfurled revealing new details in each chapter but leaving new questions to be answered. Not until its final chapters is web of the narrative fully revealed.
The writing is beautiful crafted, evocative & provides insights into each character. The narration is superb. I would highly recommend this book to lift you out of the every day.

3 women all neatly put together.

So beautifully written, and all the readers had such mesmerising voices. I couldn’t stop listening. I love how all 3 women are linked together by a great power. Well done

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would

I normally don’t like books that flick around various timelines, so was a bit doubtful going in. I was pleasantly surprised. The different life’s of these women from different centuries captivated me, and the changes in perspective seemed to really work.

I liked the characters and felt invested in the outcomes for each. I felt uncomfortable at times, particularly the opening chapter with Kate (DV trigger warning). The book displayed the ugliness of the patriarchy and I was cheering on each woman. The ending was satisfying.

Sounded mysterious and enchanting

I thoroughly enjoyed how the story was layered out between the three women and the graceful way the author joined them all together.

Powerful women

A gripping anthology about women’s strength and overcoming adversity. I really enjoyed how the three stories were interwoven together and all came to a head at the end.
