Jordan B. Peterson
About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The revolutionary new offering from Jordan B. Peterson, renowned psychologist and author of the global bestseller 12 Rules for Life
In We Who Wrestle with God, Jordan Peterson guides us through the ancient, foundational stories of the Western world, analyzing the Biblical accounts of rebellion, sacrifice, suffering and triumph that stabilize, inspire and unite us, culturally and psychologically. Adam and Eve and the eternal fall of mankind; the resentful and ultimately murderous war of Cain and Abel; the cataclysmic flood of Noah, the spectacular collapse of the Tower of Babel; Abraham’s terrible adventure, and the epic of Moses and the Israelites: What could such stories possibly mean? What force wrote and assembled them, over the long centuries? How did they bring our spirits and the world together, and point us in the same direction?
It is time for us to understand such things, scientifically and spiritually; to become conscious of the structure of our souls and our societies – to see ourselves and others as if for the first time.
Join Elijah as he discovers the Voice of God in the dictates of his own conscience, and Jonah, confronting hell itself, in the belly of the whale, because he failed to listen and act. Set yourself straight in intent, aim and purpose, as you begin to more deeply understand the structure of your society and your soul. Journey with Jordan Peterson through the greatest stories ever told.
Dare to wrestle with God.

I’m not religious, but the West clearly needs to return to God.
JPs latest book is an interesting and insightful introduction to religion for the religiously naive such as myself.

Very dense - not for beginners
Unfortunately I can't recommend this, even though I love his other works.
I wouldn't bother unless you've already read Maps of Meaning, have a solid knowledge of Judeo-Christian scriptures, and enjoy extremely verbose expositions (of fairly basic Christian concepts - through his lens of order and chaos)
The message is important (bordering on self-evident) but he uses a lot of words to repeatedly drive home the same points with very little effort towards making it accessible. It's a bit like a 25hr stream of consciousness. And without a great deal of self reflection.

More truth in this then my entire 12 years at a Christian school
During school, the bible was always used as a way to manipulate us. My curiosity is satisfied with this explanation. thankyou.

2nd Greatest Book ever written!
In depth analysis of the essence of God through the study of the biblical text amongst other insights. Purely typically marvellousness. Peterson at his best.

Profound, truely profound - explores the first biblical stories in the bible and great length and tells us how we can live our best life

Tinkerbell Porn
I loved the story of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Dr Peterson's "Tinkerbell Porn" was harsh, however I get his point but still harsh

The chapter by chapter recap of the biblical stories.
Love Dr Peterson’s writing and love listening to his reading. His style is very inviting to the reader/listener and he has clearly thought to great depth on these topics but he takes the reader/listener gradually through his thought process which, if you think about examples from your own life, becomes relatable and ultimately makes you realise how richly the Bible can inform our decisions in life and help us to live well.

Hard to follow
I think JP is a great teacher and I have listened to most of his interviews. 12 rules for life was one of the best books I have listed too. I was super excited to get going on this book but it was very difficult to follow the story and the message from the book.

This is how I relate to Christianity, the Bible and God.
My mind cannot simply accept the literal accounts in the old testament, I've always found myself looking for the message in the metaphor. I read Jordan's Maps Of Meaning alongside his other work and followed his university biblical lectures for years now and always found them a comfort; logic meets religion. Jordan presents the biblical text in a way that decodes the message. Funnily enough Jordan had brought me closer to God in my own way that has no necessity of attending a special building nor paying homage to men in fancy dress, some of whom couldn't hope to meet the standard set by the God they profess to follow the teachings of.
