About this listen
“We Are the Luckiest is a masterpiece. It’s the truest, most generous, honest, and helpful sobriety memoir I’ve read. It’s going to save lives.” (Glennon Doyle, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Love Warrior: A Memoir)
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky.
But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy. She recognized that “those of us who answer the invitation to wake up, whatever our invitation, are really the luckiest of all.”
Here, in straight-talking chapters filled with personal stories, McKowen addresses issues such as facing facts, the question of AA, and other people’s drinking. Without sugarcoating the struggles of sobriety, she relentlessly emphasizes the many blessings of an honest life, one without secrets and debilitating shame.

It's not the label, but the content that influence
This book help me realise a few things, it is one step at a time that you can climb up to new heights, if you only date one step at a time, till you start to see the view

So good
Such an eloquently written book, Laura’s recount of her experience is kind but no bullshit. She’s brutally honest at many points, but does not ask for sympathy or justification on her actions/history. Her thoughts on behaviour change are well executed and apply to more than just those looking to stop alcohol consumption. Honestly one of the best books I have read in some time, really should be read by the masses

Loved it!
Regardless of your length of sobriety, this is beautifully written and told. I loved this audible and found myself pausing it on my morning runs numerous times to write down her quotes. It will be one of those unique books i’ll listen to again and again. All the best to anyone on the path of recovery and especially to those considering it. In recovery, I am now an active, calm participant in life.

All I can say is Thankyou Laura
This book is mandatory reading for those on this journey. Of all the ones I’ve read on this topic, in this vein, this one came closest to my heart. I normally do physical work while listening to audio books but this one made me stop and just listen, I really needed to hear these words with everything I have. I will be listening again immediately, for all the bits I may have missed. It really hit home for me. Again, Thankyou Laura for sharing this with me.

simply the best!
I've read so many 'sober' 'quit lit' books, but, this one has touched me on such a deep level. I've loved every word and will listen again, such an honest account from the author, thank you for sharing your story. I'm so happy I found this.
