Publisher's Summary

Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward.

Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.

And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.

Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D.

And now she might never escape.

Absolutely incredible

Loved this book had me right from the start. Then half way through even better, had me all the way to the end, keeps you guessing the whole way through!

Not the best

Not sure if it was the audio that made this not one of her best

won't be on my favourites list

long and drawn out with the promised thrill absent from the story. Narrator was okay but nothing brilliant

Murder suspense with a difference

The psychological effects added to the suspense of the story and makes it a real possibility. A great story and worth listening to. And well narrated

Great Narrator

Good story, well written, but quite predictable compared to her other novels. Narrator was engaging.

Another good read!

Another gripping twister of a story! The narrator was also a good performer. I enjoyed it

Predictable but still gripping

Maybe its all the crime shows I consume but this seemed really easy to guess. I did have a little trouble with some of the main character's approaches towards people with mental health problems. They are described as people to be feared rather than how they can be helped and supported. This was a little problematic for me as a mental health worker.

A quick, easy to follow physiological thriller set in a psychiatric unit. Great narration!

A quick, easy to follow physiological thriller set in a psychiatric unit. Great narration! While nothing can top ‘The housemaid’, I’m loving exploring Freida McFadden’s other novels and this was a great one!

Amazingly well written!

I love anything by Freida McFadden. As i work in an inpatient mental health facility I struggled with the portrayal of the patients but Freida’s incredible author skills won out in the end!
