About this listen
Que Son Valley is actually a large area of hills and valleys just to the west of Da Nang, Viet Nam. During the 1960s, units from the US Marines and US Army engaged the 2nd North Vietnamese Division in heavy and close combat. Our mission was to keep the enemy from capturing the cities of Da Nang, Tam Ky, and Chu Lai and to pacify the area. We did prevent the enemy from capturing these vital cities, but the area was far from pacified.
Many young, brave Americans were killed or seriously wounded in these hills and valleys in the belief they were helping the Vietnamese obtain freedom and peace. Although our altruistic beliefs might have gone astray, it was my honor serving with these fine men and women. I wrote this book in honor of them and to keep their memories alive.

A good Vietnam grunt war memoir.
This was a good Vietnam grunt veteran’s memoir. I recall seeing another review saying that it was disorganised. I don’t know what planet that listener came from, because I thought that it was well organised. The author even provides dates as his time in Vietnam progressed. My only quip is that the narrator sounded a little effeminate. But I got used to it after a while, and felt that despite this minor thing, the book was read very well.

Moving. I cant express why, but this book moved me
Definitely worth a listen, the author speaks/writes with an open honestly that genuinely moved me. I listen to A LOT of war books, in every variation, from Paul Hamm to Antony Beevor to All Quiet on the Western Front to the incredible Pelelui and Okinawa with the Old Breed and the horrifically unforgettable Forgotten Soldier. This book reminded me very much of Pelelui.. and Forgotten Soldier, both unbelievably moving books. Thanks Michael Cunningham, thank you for sharing what must have been so unbelievably confusing and terrifying for a kid, a baby of 18/19 years old to go through. Your honesty moved me, and I feel for you and your brothers in C Company very deeply.

Kept me interested
Very interesting right through. Seems to be an honest account of nine months in Vietnam during 1968.
