Now in the Deep Waters, the true home of all Men of Bones, Jalen finds himself away from the Empire, but beset with issues. The first is that of his second mother's people, the holders of the mythical "lights of Meran", the lights of the Gods, who are under attack from the Empire in an attempt to force Jalen to show himself and be killed. Then, there is the "Lost" Isle, one of the isles fought over for so many years. Few remember its given name, as it was annexed repeatedly and now host to all sorts of ill deeds, including slavery of some of the vilest type. And if that weren't enough, he finds himself face-to-face with the Black Armada and within bowshot of the Blighted Isle, a place so feared by men of the sea that it doesn't even exist on the maps.
