Publisher's Summary
East Antarctica: the coldest, most desolate location on earth. Two-and-a-half miles below the ice cap is Vostok, a 6,000 square mile liquid lake, over 1,000 feet deep, left untouched for more than 15 million years. Now, marine biologist Zachary Wallace and two other scientists aboard a submersible tethered to a laser will journey 13,000 feet beneath the ice into this unexplored realm to discover Mesozoic life-forms long believed extinct - and an object of immense power responsible for the evolution of modern man.
In this sequel to The Loch and prequel to Meg: Nightstalkers, New York Times best-selling author Steve Alten offers listeners a crossover novel that features characters from two of his most popular series.

Finishing this was more a matter of self discipline than anything else.

Veers away from being a monster story
I was enjoying the story for what it was, a monster book. The characters were fairly 2dimensional. Plus every woman was a sex object to the main character. putting that aside the first half with pre historic mosters was ok.

don't waste your time
What a horrible mishmash of different genres!
What starts as your typical scientist going into an unexplored lake deep under the ice of Arctica (what can possibly go wrong right?).
They meet some prehistoric creatures on their way of course...but then the story suddenly veers off course into the alien artefacts and human contact with aliens.
Gotta say I gave up at that point, as it was just too off course of the original premise.
