About this listen

An enemy with otherworldly powers. A war fueled by insatiable bloodlust. No one will be spared.

Following their first victory against a rogue unit of Repub Marines, Magnus finds his newly trained gladias pinned down by a squadron of Talons. But when he discovers that their prisoners may hold critical answers to bringing down the enemy, Magnus must stop at nothing to get his team to safety and interrogate the enemy combatants.

Once aboard their new Novian starship, however, Magnus isn’t prepared for the intel he uncovers. The enemy’s power is growing stronger by the day, and their claws have found their way into his own team members. Forced across the void horizon into his home universe, Magnus must search to find Awen’s mentor and famed Elder of the Luma, Willowood. But finding the old woman before the enemy unleashes the next stage of its plans could mean the end of Magnus’ fledgling resistance.

Includes a bonus story from the Ruins of the Galaxy series and a special note from the author.

Miscommunication not a plot device I enjoy

The action, plot progression and character development in this book was good, making this difficult for me to rate. This instalment loses a point as for me personally I don’t like miscommunication between characters, especially children, as a plot device to create tension. The setup around that conflict seemed forced just to create animosity between major characters and I found this challenging to work my way through. If that doesn’t bother you then add a star.

Disappointed

Spoiler Alert!

As mentioned by other readers, the author uses miscommunication as a plot device, and same as them I am not a big fan of it, It feels like the author was to lazy/rushed to build a better story and using miscommunication detracts from the characters while leaving the story riddled with plot holes, especially in a universe where the characters involved can use the unity to see the truth or read minds, unfortunately the author seems to double down on this approach in the next book so it might be my last in this series. It was good while it lasted.

Bad Writing

Is that honestly how you think children think and act? What a Horrible little Brat.
I suppose it's way too much to ask that Stupid little prick goes away somewhere never to be heard from again, only to die a horrible just fate of screen?
Lazy writing my dude, you started some fabricated misunderstanding between the Brat and the main character for zero reason, had to hit some kind of word count or something?
I will be completely skipping any future chapters with that thing in.
