Publisher's Summary

England, 1346. For Thomas Blackstone the choice is easy - dance on the end of a rope for a murder he did not commit, or join the king's invasion. As he fights his way across Northern France, Blackstone learns the brutal lessons of war.

Vastly outnumbered, Edward III's army will finally confront the armoured might of the French nobility on the field of Crécy. It is a battle that will change the history of warfare.

"Page turning novel...a gritty book sparing nothing in its descriptions of the realities of Medieval warfare." ( Daily Mail)

best yet in the series.

Love it. This is the best yet in the series. The new narrator brings something new to the telling as well. Jumping straight into the next one to keep up the momentum built by this story. Very well written. In my eyes David Gilman is now elevated to equal to Bernard Cornwall following this series.

Why change the accents?!

The same narrator gave an English archer a welsh accent which he didn’t have in the previous book. It’s so distracting and makes no sense in the context of the book. What a shame. Great story though

Look out Bernard Cornwall

I love historic based war books
Bernard Cornwall fans will love it.
Relentless grit and storyline twists, kept me on the edge of my airline seat from Australia to England. Well the seat wasn't that big.
Cheers Gordon

Fantastic series

A great example of historical fiction and from start to finish these books will keep you entertained. Dark and violent but balanced with a main character that clings to his values no matter what gets thrown his way.

not the best

im slowly coming to terms with the change in Narrator although Colin still seems to struggle..his voices are spot on especially Thomas's..it suits him better. i thought this book just wasted time. it was almost the end before the vipers came into it.
