Awww this was cute

I enjoyed this book. I came here after reading the Boston Belles series by the same author after learning that this series was some of the earlier works that garnered fans.
For those reading this review, the books by L.J Shen fit the genre that they are in. Of course they are nothing groundbreaking but they are certainly an easy listen whilst performing other tasks like driving or cleaning and I found myself churning through each book in a little over a day.
The main character in this book certainly has flaws and I can see why on the surface others are not drawn to him or feel it romanticises abusive behaviour etc
But I think the author does a decent job at peeling back the surface layers to reveal a character that whilst deeply flawed, is more than just what he appears. I also think this is a genuine and accurate reflection on the real world reality of human beings. Everyone has demons and we are all mostly more than what we appear to be on the surface.
As for Emilia, I don’t think she a pushover by any stretch and whilst she did cop a lot of crap on the chin from Vicious, it was in part due to her nature. We also witnessed her find her voice and develop into a woman who was much more sure of herself and what she wanted.
I guess that’s as deep as it goes, the rest of it including the typical HEA are probably less likely to be a reflection of the real world realities of human relationships but they suit the purpose of the books in creating an escape for the audience tethered with some complications that are relatable to many.
Although I’m bound to forget the book and the characters just as quickly as I read about them, I enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of this genre.

Fun, so much fun.

I really enjoyed this quirky story. The dialogue at times made me laugh till I cried. This beauty has a bit of everything to offer.

Binge worthy

There is always something about the Sexy rich Bad Bot story that gets you in. Vicious is all bad boy with some nasty thrown in and but then you find out why and you live his character a little more.
Both narrators brought the characters to life and read others well also. Binged through a day and thoroughly enjoyed

Yeah, it’s a fun listen

Honestly was expecting something very different. I’m not sure I liked the character arc of Vicious but for the narrative it worked and it’s all escapism isn’t it ☺️

Delicious Hate To Love Romance

“It was always us and you know it.”

It’s 10 years in the future, and Emilia is living paycheck to paycheck trying to support her sister while working two jobs in New York. On a night shift waitressing she comes across a man that haunted her past. His family had control over hers and she was run out of the town…

When I tell you the MMC Vicious is a massive alpha hole and at the start, you question everything when reading. Wondering how it will turn around for you to fall for the MMC. This man is the biggest red flag walking but when you dig through the layers and brick walls the FMC Emilia starts uncovering a dark past and his true feelings. I am a sucker for a broken man and the grovelling at the end was delicious. She is his addiction but so is he to her. It’s a very toxic relationship and environment due to their past and present. I did enjoy this, but I did struggle with Vicious and his ways at times. I love how strong Emilia is in the present to put up with his behaviour over and over again and started to put her foot down against him.
The plot was great, excited to read about the other friends in the coming book. I’m so ready for Rosie and Dean. The audiobook is great and would recommend it.

The voice took me over the top

Love love loved the book. Read it numerous times. His voice was the perfect match for a harden boy brought up without a loving and present father or step mother. She was his perfect match who he drove away by jealousy. Until their paths cross 10 years later he realised he can't be without her.

Baron and Emilia

The viciousness and nastiness of Baron was difficult to comprehend throughout the book, until I found out why.
The book was cleverly written, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
Emilia was his victim, because she lived close and she was nice and came from a loving, caring family.
All the things he didn’t have.
Vicious lacked a moral compass. He had no one since his mother’s death at age nine. He had secrets he couldn’t reveal, and lived his life like any abused child, acting out in a predictable fashion - protecting himself from more pain and hurt.
