Hvor Ambrosius Stubs digte var smukke, lette og yndefulde, var hans liv og opførsel det stik modsatte. Jo ældre han blev, des mere gik han op i limningen af druk, personlige problemer og sorg over omverdenens manglende anerkendelse af hans digte, som efter hans død vandt stor popularitet. Niels Aage Barfoed (1899-1973) var en dansk præst og forfatter, der skrev en lang række biografiske romaner om historiske danskere heriblandt Poul Henningsen, Leonora Christina Ulfeldt, biskop Hans Adolf Brorson og Steen Steensen Blicher. Niels Aage Barfoed stod desuden bag flere noveller og romaner.
