About this listen
Today Vegemite is recognised around the world, but when the salty black paste was first produced in 1923 the public wasn't interested. In fact, it took another 15 years and a world war before we embraced it.
Vegemite shares the fascinating tale of Cyril Callister, the man who invented what would become Australia's most beloved consumer product, along with the story of its rocky road to acceptance. Spanning the Gold Rush, the Depression and two world wars, it opens a window on the evolution of modern Australia.
Vegemite is a great Australian story of overcoming the odds, and of how extraordinary things can happen to (almost) ordinary people.

Interesting story, terribly voice over
Worth a listen to learn the history of the iconic product but unfortunately the voice over is the author rather than professional so you loose a lot of the interest to dull monotone clumps.

Great read. Excellent narration.
I love this book! What an interesting life. it is like a lesson in early 20th century history. As it is written and narrated by the author, who is also the subject's grandson it feels like a memoir with lots of personal insights, family, social and broader historical context that brings the whole content alive. Whether or not you like Vegemite (and if you don't, are you even Australian?) this is a great book. Every Aussie should read this book.
