Julehyggen i Danmark opstod cirka 20 kilometer uden for Viborg, Nærmere bestemt i Vammen, hvor Peder Grønvald Rudolf Sørensen Fynbo havde været skolelærer siden 1901. Grønvald Fynbo var forfatter og skrev et utal af digte og noveller, og i 1918 fik han den idé at udsende et julehæfte med fortællinger, erindringer og illustrationer af både kendte og ukendte danskere fra hele landet. Det blev en stor succes, og VED JULELAMPENS SKÆR har således fejret 100-års jubilæum. Det har overlevet som det eneste af de mange julehæfter.
