About this listen
He left to see the world, but the world is a cruel master
Setting out to be a wandering cultivator, Sen has high ideals. Half-remembered stories of honorable cultivators and the kindness of his teachers shaped his expectations.
The world he finds is something else entirely. Thrust into deadly conflict, Sen finds himself fleeing the death of a sect cultivator in fear of retribution. As his flight carries him across the kingdom, he finds his ideals challenged by bandits, cultivators, and demon beasts.
In the city of Emperors Bay he will face the true crucible of his character and skills, and discover the harsh truth that violence is necessary to survive.

Eh
Some might say this book has a slow start. I would say it has a boring start. Sen rejects every call to adventure with all the self absorbed disinterest of a teenager which just isn't entertaining.
At one point he's 'ambushed' by bandits and thinks to himself 'These men are definitely murderers and I could defeat them easily, but killing them would make me no better than them.' so instead he scares them off so they can get back to robbing and murdering the next passing traveler. Frankly that level of apathy and stupid comic book morality makes me disdain a character.
The audio is decent, personally its not to my liking, the narrator tends to be too breathy and high pitched in moments that should have gravitas which completely takes me out of it, but I can see how other people wouldn't be bothered.

Great
Great story and high skill of performance and while its probably asking too much but having a female cast the female characters would make it a level higher of immersion. one of my favourite series

Disappointing compare to the first book
Truly a 'meh' book, it isn't just a slow start, it's slow throughout. The character development doesn't make him a better and more interesting character, it's the opposite....
