About this listen
Understanding Girls with ADHD does not shy away from key areas of controversy. How, for example, can a family know whether it's ADHD or another set of problems that's the primary issue? How does one deal with the potential use of medication, which is plagued by bad press and abundant myths but which can, as part of a multi-faceted treatment plan, provide great benefit if the right dose is found and if the doctor works with the family to monitor positive effects and side effects carefully? What about longterm risk for eating pathology, substance abuse, and other difficult areas of impairment of salience for girls? How can girls and their families break through the thicket of negative expectations and sometimes toxic family interactions to pave the way for a different set of outcomes?
Always sensitive, and without hesitation in providing an authoritative tone, this book will empower girls and their families in ways that are sorely needed. Its emphasis on gender-specific manifestations of ADHD and its inclusion of practical means of attacking the executive function deficits that plague girls and women with ADHD will ensure its continued status as core guidebook.

Highly Informative and Easy to Understand
This book has helped me tremendously in building the courage, knowledge and vocabulary to independently seek professional support for my neurodivergent traits for the first time at age 33. It was both eye opening and validating to hear about these studies. It has provided me with direction to investigate and reflect on the strengths and challenges I have had throughout my schooling, professional and personal lives and I was better prepared for my first meeting with a psychiatrist.
I have recommended this audiobook to two female friends who have struggled with executive function related issues but did not know where to start.

Evidence based but US based
An evidence based title based in the US, making it less suited to an Australian audience. Topics include: anxiety, stress, depression, adhd, external/internal triggers, self-validation, lizard brain, bodily sensations, negativity bias/unhelpful thinking styles, core beliefs, examing the evidence, managing expectations, re-attribution, positive qualities recording (?), self-conpassion, practical procrastination strategies, fidgeting, behaviour modification, building mastery 3xperiences, support seeking, problem-solving by pros/ cons analysis, amd SMART goaling. Very difficult to listen to - poorly narrated
I found the narrator very difficult to listen to and found myself having to re-listen to sentences to make sense of what was said. Her emphasizing of certain words and the times she chose to pause during sentences made it clear that she had absolutely no understanding of what she was reading about. The information in the book was useful, but very American-based so a lot of the information, particularly around education and access to healthcare, was not particularly relevant for Australia or even for the uk.
