About this listen

High heels, movie deals, wagon wheels, shoes, reviews, having the blues, builders, babies, families and other calamities... Many think that Marian leads a glitzy life of limos, television, and showbiz parties - but she would argue that she spends the majority of her life writing alone, wearing her PJs, and eating bananas with a laptop on a pillow in front of her. Under the Duvet is a wide collection of her journalism and stories, all personal, closely observed, and painfully funny...©2001 Marian Keyes (P)2002 W F Howes Ltd Biographies & Memoirs Comedy & Humour Essays Literary History & Criticism Nonfiction Funny Comedy

Lovely and fun listen

I love hearing these stories from Marion Keys herself . It’s like sitting and chatting with a friend over a cup of tea. Lovely and snort out loud funny!

An amusing collection of essays on life’s trials!

Beloved Irish romcom writer Marian Keyes has been publishing humorous articles for various publications for decades and this collection showcases some of her best. We see Marian grapple with airlines, builders, and gardeners where Murphy’s Law seems to apply most of the time; We also get insights into Irish culture and humour. Most of the short essays end with a joke and Marian is often the brunt of that! More poignant essays cover Marian’s struggles with alcoholism which provided a rich background to her excellent book, Rachel’s Holiday, but you can also see how the whole of her Walsh Family series is informed by her own family. Each essay is short and you can dip in and out of the book, very few need to be read in order. I really enjoyed the topics, the self-deprecating humour, and 🎧 Marian’s own narration of the audiobook (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!

Interesting and funny insights

Very happy Marian narrated this collection of her own columns and other stories. So interesting to hear about her life in that funny Irish way of hers. No wonder she is so successful! I’m off to read My Favourite Mistake and I wish for the millionth time I was part of her fictional Walsh family!
