About this listen
Set under the brooding skies of North Norfolk. Meet Sara Hirst as she searches for her lost father and finds that great beauty sometimes conceals great violence.
Detective Sara Hirst has moved from London to Norfolk Police's Serious Crimes Unit. She wants to know the truth about her father, who has connections to the area. Her mother won't tell her the real story.
A new job. A new place. Same old problems.
Sara's first call-out is to a decomposing body discovered in a ditch on a local farm. How does the murder relate to a recent spate of thefts? Who wanted the victim dead?
Then the case grows very personal....
Contains mature themes.

Characters are not likable
Narration was perfect and the story engaging. However the characters unlikable mostly, esp the selfish mother who I couldn't stand. The protagonist is a hit and miss but her story makes her actions more plausible and therefore easier to accept.

Wow,powerful.
I was surprised at this story. I found it really heartbreaking in places, emotional in others. It is a book that keeps you engaged from the very being through to the end.. Had truly great characters, with excellent narration. This is a book worth listening to.

Rubbish
Protagonist is awful. She spends the entire time feeling sick, vomiting and fainting, all because she can't get a grip on her emotions. She has transferred from the London Met to a country village but is shocked by things she should be familiar with as an experienced city cop. She's also rather thick about her father's "abandonment" of her, as the answer is there in the letters the author provides early in the book. In addition, she can't see what a selfish, manipulative drama queen her mother is. On the whole, just another case of a lazy author trying to sell a mediocre, over-emotional fool as some hot stuff detective.

Disaster
What a horrible book. I could not like any of the characters and didn't finish this book. The story line was ridiculous, the characters were 2 dimensional, the performance poor. It is very hard to get to know characters who, apparently, only have surnames. Apart from the fact that everyone seems to work in a toxic workplace there was little to identify as a rational thought in this book.
