About this listen
The last thing Slade wants is to be in charge of anyone but himself, and his dog Lola, because the military taught him the high price of being in command. Dave Logan is on his honeymoon though, and leaves him right where he doesn't want to be. Just as he knew it would, the hard-won peace Slade finally found in his life quickly flies out the window, and things go from bad to worse when a child is kidnapped and Deep Six Security is on the verge of losing its biggest security contract on his watch.
With no leads in the case, Slade is desperate, so when the head of hotel security, small but feisty Taylor Kincaid, gets fired over the incident, he thinks hiring her to help him find the boy is smart. As the situation unravels though, he sees Taylor could be in just as much danger as the missing child. When a terrorist plot is added into the mix, Slade is at the end of his rope and has some tough choices to make fast. Does he save the only woman he's even considered letting himself love in a very long time? Does he save the child who is the key to keeping their contract? Or does he focus on saving the entire state before it's too late and they all die?

kept it's pace
firstly I really like Matt Haynes. He's narrated a lot if Kris Michaels books and I'm an absolute fan of her.
this is my first Becky book and while she has a good plot and Introduces yummy alphas, she kinda doesn't make them alpha unique, so when it's their book I'm ready to listen to I'm already a little meh! because he has been given a played down character already.
her heroine is sassy and strong which is what is called for but she makes a few silly choices that left me shaking my head.
the canines were a brilliant addition and it "lightly" addressed the consequences of ex war veterans.
the epilogue was a hoot!!!
somehow though, this didn't gel with the character's description and character's dialogue, at times it's like they were 2 different people. I can understand that may have been the intention as the hero wrestles with his demons, but maybe a bit more depth may have made me feel it a bit more. it jumped between the 2 character identities fairly quickly.
the twist added in regarding Taylor was a surprise but again, I feel, for me I needed depth to grasp this situation.
I love series books and normally am a Susan stoker and Kris Michaels kinda gal, Ms McGraw fell short with depth....that's all I find wrong with this book. 4 stars is Matt Haynes and the plotline.
all in all its fast paced and has some action.
