About this listen
The inside story of crisis and turmoil at American Airlines during the 12 years following the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
In the twelve years following 9/11, American Airlines lost billions of dollars and endured years of crisis and turmoil. Financial upheaval, the crash of Flight 587, grueling confrontations with labor, a rival’s push to acquire the company, and a challenging fight with the government tested the mettle and fortitude of its top executives. Against all odds, American found a way to save what was once the world’s largest airline from certain ruin.
Told through the eyes of American’s chief lawyer, this insider’s story of intrigue of the unfolding events is set against a personal look at the innermost workings of the sexiest industry in the world.

Boo Hoo
Incredibly difficult to listen to as the gentleman reading speaks so quickly that he gobbles up words regularly. His pace changes dramatically when he resumes reading after an obvious break. The recording environment is 'tinny', as if he was performing from his garage.
Content-wise, the story is told from a management perspective, but goes further to reinforce just how narrow-minded a professional who spends most of their career at the senior executive level, is. There is little to suggest that the author understands or is in any way empathetic with the views of the thousands of staff who plugged away in the lower rungs of the company, and practically no understanding of, or appreciation for the customer in all of this.
For anyone interested in the reality of chapter 11 and how a company in this industry can use it to not just avoid their obligations but to actually come out the other side better off because of it, you will enjoy this yarn (it is noted however that all pre bankruptcy debts we're repaid).
Note to anyone considering joining AA management; it's all about tall, skinny, conservative men!
