About this listen

Turning Around a Troubled School is the story of a very public leadership challenge in reversing the fortunes of a failing government school in the affluent eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. The school population had crashed from over 1,000 students to just over 250, and the school had been given only 12 months to turn around, otherwise it would be closed.

Peter Hutton, a new principal with a bold vision, took on the task. Eight years later, the population had grown to over 1,000, and the school was recognized internationally as one of the most innovative in the world. The audiobook provides practical insights into the steps taken to turn the school around, the challenges faced, and the milestones that reveal that a school culture is moving. This is the personal leadership story of the first two years of that journey of school renewal told with Peter’s unique form of brutal honesty that will hopefully support and encourage other school leaders facing similar tough times

Storytelling at its best!

Hearing the strategic planning and daily work of a school principal in a storytelling format is a great way to learn. When they stories are from a dynamic and truly innovative principal such as Peter, this becomes more of a conversation than a book.

Refreshing

I was captivated and listened at any chance I got. Fascinating to hear the story of TC's transformation, having only heard snippets previously. Also, a very human account, easy to connect to and also insightful for a new teacher like myself. Wasn't able to access the PDF links though and the formatting was a little off E.g. saying it was at Chapter 10 and displaying as Chapter 13 (correctly).
