About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Captain David Marquet was used to giving orders. In the high-stress environment of the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear-powered submarine, it was crucial his men did their job well. But the ship was dogged by poor morale, poor performance and the worst retention in the fleet.
One day, Marquet unknowingly gave an impossible order and his crew tried to follow it anyway. He realised he was leading in a culture of followers and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things.
Marquet took matters into his own hands and pushed for leadership at every level. Before long, his crew became fully engaged and the Santa Fe skyrocketed from worst to first in the fleet.
No matter your business or position, you can apply Marquet's approach to create a workplace where everyone takes responsibility for their actions, people are healthier and happier - and everyone is a leader.

"David Marquet is the kind of leader who comes around only once in a generation...his ideas and lessons are invaluable." (Simon Sinek, author of Start with Why)

Great book, have listened 5 times.
Have put it into practice at two businesses now and everyone involved has grown and become better off for it.

Decent listen. Good messages.
Good overall themes. Lots of character names which are challenging to remember throughout so referring back to them was lost on me.

fantastic book. listened to it in two settings.
I was given this book as a recommendation. It is the quintessential leadership book in my opinion. I couldn't stop listening to the insights provided. I intend to apply the learning at home and the workplace.

Powerful!
A concisely written
and interesting manual for effective leadership. Leadership books don't have to be millions of pages and Turn the Ship around achieves exactly that.

Challenged my thinking and I'm better for it.
I loved all the practical examples and advice and humility of the writer. I think my team will be better off from me listening to on this. My process will no longer be my teams master.

great combination of story and teachings
I've recommended this book to my team and will refer back to this many times I'm sure. the combination of story, trouble, learning, and explanation is incredibly valuable. Thank you Mr Marquet!

it's good but you should already know this
good context and valuable lessons. It does drag on and the story is somewhat uninteresting.
For any managers and people in leadership positions you'd probably get the same information tailored to your business if you went and spoke to the most disagreeable members of your staff and asked for honest feedback. Save yourself the time and speak to a sigma male in your organisation before reading this book

Good to read if you’re new to leadership and have no clue
Not much new concepts or approaches in leadership. Read/listen if you’re new to leadership or new in your career.
