About this listen
Tsumiko inherits an ancestral home, a vast fortune, and a butler who isn't exactly human.
Humanity is rocked by the Emergence of a people who call themselves the Amaranthine. They are our myths and legends come to life. Neither human nor animal, yet embracing qualities of both, the inhuman races inspire both awe and fear. Every newsfeed is clogged with updates about the peace process, but some places don't concern themselves with worldly affairs. Like the girls' school run by Saint Midori's of the Heavenly Lights, where Tsumiko Hajime grew up.
A letter from a long-lost aunt names Tsumiko heiress to an ancestral estate and its accompanying fortune. Only the legacy comes with an aloof heirloom: an inhuman butler. Argent has served the Hajime family for centuries, and Tsumiko must renew the generational bond or he'll die. Argent hates her for the hold she has over him, but he craves her soul almost as much as he craves his freedom.

Enjoyable series
I enjoyed this book and a currently up to book 4 in the series. The series deals with some dark topics. This is balanced out well with many sweet moments. Although romance is core to the plot, the series shows many different types of close connections.

A beautiful warm tale that borders on the creepy.
I enjoyed this book a lot, despite finding it quite odd. Certainly orientating in this new world of supernatural beings & magical legacies is quite unexpected. The intimate practices of "tending" (sharing soul energy) and "nestling" (snuggles and caresses) engaged in by all sorts of people regardless of their age, station, gender, species or even acquaintance can come across as equally heart warming as confronting. Overall I feel richer for having encountered these characters and will continue with this series.

Wonderful
What an absolutely weird and wonderful book this is. If you live studio ghibli movies with all their whimsy and found family feels, this one’s for you.
No smut but a sweet slow romance

Did not really enjoy this, not for me
Just did not enjoy the story, or find the characters or romance compelling. The story seemed to have some loose ends also.
