About this listen

We all want to believe. The truth is still out there.

The X-Files have been reopened. IDW Publishing and series creator Chris Carter have authorized new investigations into the weird, the strange, and the mysterious. New York Times best-selling author and multiple Bram Stoker Award winner Jonathan Maberry brings together some of today's top storytellers for a series of anthologies featuring all-new stories from the X-Files. Scully and Mulder continue their journey into darkness as they face aliens, monsters, shadow governments, and twisted conspiracies.

This first volume includes stories by Kevin J. Anderson, Tim Lebbon, Max Allan Collins, Heather Graham, Brian Keene, Peter Clines, Ray Garton, Stefan Petrucha, Gayle Lynds and John Sheldon, Aaron Rosenberg, Keith R. A. DeCandido, Paul Crilley, W. D. Gagliani and David Benton, Tim Deal, and Gini Koch.

A beautiful journey into X-Files nostalgia

90% of these stories were a delightful ode to characters I love and adore and although the reading is for the most part wooden at best, the writing carries you through the thoroughly average performance. If it wasn't for the story Time and Tide, I would have given this review 5 stars. I'm not sure the authors of that piece have ever watched an episode of Xfiles before writing their addition to what otherwise is a faithful expansion to the X-Files universe, While the tale itself is interesting, the characters couldn't be any less Mulder and Scully <spoilers following> Scully is not at all a skeptic and accepts paranormal expectations without question, Mulder HELPS in the creation of a conspiracy and coverup, with zero attempts to provide proof of the paranormal, outside fo that their interactions read more like a light take on Bonnie and Clyde than Mulder and Scully. This one story ruined what otherwise would have been a lovely read - just ignore it and listen to others.

just read fan fiction from the net

this book claims to be collection of short stories about the X-files told by amazing authors who all love and show. Unfortunately what you get is a dozen fan fictions, where most of the time its the Fox Mulder show with Dana Scully being either the damsel in distress or too stupid to breath with out audio coaching or a "skeptic" that refuses to acknowledge anything. The plot lines are often kitsch with the charater breaking fundermental FBI procedure for no reason.

there were 3 stories of the 15 that were absolute gold and were a great addition to the canon and another 5-6 that were fun but predictable the rest were just horrible sexist badly researched rubbish.
