About this listen

Written and read by Jessica Watson, this is the story of a remarkable girl who followed her dream and conquered the world.

There is something different about adventurers, about the way their minds work. They look at the world as a place of challenges, and though they know what fear is, they refuse to be hindered by it.

True Spirit is Jessica's story, and in it she will detail her preparation, her journey and her battle with sleep deprivation, gale-force winds, mountainous seas, natural hazards like whales and icebergs and holding firm against the solitude that most of us can only imagine dealing with, alone on a vast sea with no land to be seen and no help close at hand.

The name Jessica Watson will soon be part of sailing history. She will join Jesse Martin and Kay Cottee as someone all Australians can be inspired by. Jessica Watson is a dreamer who dares to do.

As a father of girls, it made me cry - for good.

Loved every bit of it. Maybe a different narrator from Jessica herself though - sorry!

I really enjoyed this book.

Listening to Jessica's story made me realise how much I didn't know about the years of preparation she and her family put in leading up to her incredible solo sail around the world. The book also shows Jessica's sense of humour and highlights her maturity and ability to cope with the unexpected.

Impossibly remarkable

I came to this after the Netflix movie and Australian Story on iview, and I couldn’t devour it fast enough. Jessica is absolutely incredible, and the quality of her spirit is second to none. I know she is quick to shake off the hero tag, but she is well and truly deserving of it, particularly to those who struggle to embrace life in the way she has. I was moved to tears at several points throughout this.
A thoroughly interesting read, and a brilliant insight into the world of solo sailing. I would’ve liked a little more detail on the journey at self and have heard her go deeper than the blog, but still, I felt I was with her every step of the way.
Remarkable story from a remarkable person.

A truely inspiring story

Wow what a voyage. Loved all the spirit and couldn’t help but be impressed with the planning and preparation that went into to voyage. A wonderful example of how well placed planning makes executing a journey easily accomplishable.
