About this listen

Misha doesn't remember what it's like to have a home.

He left Russia in search of a better life, but when he didn't find it, he left the human world behind. Now he lives in the woods and eats garbage out of trash cans. At least he's safe here as long as he stays a bear.

But he keeps going back to one particular house, to one particular guy. He can't seem to stay away. JT feeds him breakfast and says he wants to help, and Misha slowly, begrudgingly begins to trust him. Before long, Misha's living in his spare room and learning how to be human again . . . and lusting over his new roommate.

JT is everything Misha's always told himself he can't have. He plays hockey, he's rich, he looks amazing in a swimsuit, and he turns out to be much less straight than Misha assumed. As their summer idyll takes a thrilling, steamy turn, Misha begins to tentatively put down roots in JT's hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, and think about what might happen when the summer ends.

But Misha's past hasn't left him behind, and when his secrets abruptly come to light, he risks losing everything about his new life that he's come to cherish . . . especially JT.

Contains mature themes.

Utterly charming shifter / sports romance!!

Captain of an ailing professional ice hockey team, JT is licking his wounds over the summer in his country house when he notices that a large Eurasian bear is regularly raiding his bins and sitting in his hot tub. He’s pretty sure the bear is a shifter but he seems feral. Over many weeks, JT patiently woos the bear with food and finally the bear shifts back into his human form, Misha. Misha is Russian, his past is painful, and he finds comfort in his less cognitive / more instinctual bear form. Over many more weeks, JT works at rehabilitating Misha, help him learn English, and encouraging Misha to connect with the local shifter community. Both men are in the closet and labour under the delusion that the other man is straight but over time their feelings for each other can’t be ignored.

This was an utterly charming romance with a great blend of shifter and sports tropes with a philanthropic / homelessness theme. JT is incredibly patient with Misha, gently guiding him to improve without being demanding. Misha slowly shifts (lol) from an instinctive animal mindset back to a human mentality but isn’t always mature in his decision-making. There’s some angst for both guys but it’s mostly gentle and I absolutely loved it!!! 🎧 Voice actor Curtis Michael Holland did a fantastic job, especially with Misha’s broken English—entirely endearing!

Loved it!

I really loved this story! I’m not sure if it was the way he was written or the narrators skill, but the Misha character was really brought to life and he is just so adorable.

The storyline was good without anything being too over the top. There was some spicy romance, some sad moments, and some laugh out loud moments. Thoroughly enjoyable!
