About this listen

When Charlie Flint is sent a mysterious package of cuttings about a brutal murder, it instantly grabs her attention. The murder occurred in the grounds of her old Oxford college - a groom battered to death just hours after his wedding. As his bride and wedding guests sipped champagne, his alleged killers were slipping his bloodstained body into the river.

Charlie doesn't know who sent the package, or why, yet she can't get the crime out of her head. But as she delves deeper, and steps back into the mysterious world of Oxford colleges, she realises that there is much more to this crime than meets the eye.

When listening you need to listen.

Like all McDermott books plots within plots - that is what is intriguing with her stories. This is no exception.
The narration is excellent

Great Story, Well Told, Well Read!

The narrator was fabulous, telling a complex, twisting & turning story. Well enjoyed! Val McDermid just gets better!

Bit of a letdown

As school teachers are want to say, “could do better”. I don’t think this book is indicative of Val McDermid’s work which I usually enjoy. It was a self indulgent story loaded with one dimensional characters and the story, not at all believable. As for the narrators, we’ll let’s just say it was a chore to finish the audio, all in all disappointing.

Tedious

Persevered till the end, but it worked as a sleeping pill rather than entertainment.

Given the number of characters and rather unappealing ‘lust interest’, the ‘perp’ was easily apparent - though frankly motivation and in some cases execution all a bit far fetched.

The narration within a narration simply irritated and meant all characters remained undeveloped.

Narrators fine. But not Val Mcdermid’s best.
