Publisher's Summary
"If I could have chosen, I would have been born a woman/My mother once told me she would have named me Laura/I would grow up to be strong and beautiful like her". (The Ocean)
A searing account of her search for identity and true self, Tranny reveals the struggles and victories that Laura Jane Grace, the lead singer of the cult punk rock band Against Me!, experienced in her quest for gender transition.
Illuminated by Laura Jane's never-before-published journal entries reaching back to childhood, Tranny is an intensely personal and revelatory look inside her struggles with identity and addiction. Grappling with everything from sex, drugs, and failed marriages to the music and soul of a punk rock star, this memoir paints a vivid portrait of one of the most revolutionary transgender icons of our time.

One of punk rock’s finest
I read Tranny not long after it came out and loved it! Have been hanging out to listen to Laura Jane narrating the book herself and she didn’t disappoint. Raw and honest, it will stay as one of my faves!

Holy Wow!
I absolutely love this book. One of the best, most heartfelt, heart wrenching, and beautiful journeys through a life lived, warts and all. I've read this book, and now, hearing Laura Jane's read her words and thoughts gathered through her live, I couldn't love and admire the woman more. This book has inspired me in ways I can't express just like her amazing music always has. Read this or Listen to this. You will not be the same afterwards.

wow
I can't believe you can have vastly different and yet such similar lives to someone you've listened for half your life and not even know it. I was a teenage anarchist.

Human and raw
Laura has a way of writing that is conversational and easy to follow. I cringed at the male privilege that marked so much of her experiences but found her story one of humanness and vulnerability. It’s one long truth bomb about gender, fame and accountability. I enjoyed this immensely.

Loved it!
Great mix of stories from the road and behind the scenes of against me's music, plus insight into gender dysphoria
