About this listen
One day, six towers appear on Earth. Each one stands hundreds of stories tall, and are invulnerable to all attacks. At the base of each tower is a portal, welcoming in all who dare enter it. All sorts of magical monsters can be found inside the towers. Even treasure, magic, and superhuman strength can be acquired.
The problem is that the towers aren't a friendly place. Even worse, the towers sometimes release waves of monsters to attack Earth. In the year 2083, there are only a hundred survivors. In one last attempt, they challenge the final floor without regard for their lives. By some miracle, they manage to beat the floor at the cost of their lives, leaving only one survivor. As a reward for clearing the tower, he is granted one wish. He decides to go back in time to before the towers arrived. His goal is simple: prevent humanity from being wiped out.

Great climbing book!
Only problem is that it's way too short, you need at least double the length...

A good start, if a bit poorly executed.
I like the premise, its the same as reincarnator and master hunter k. I like how these stories progress but the book seems a bit rushed. Little inconsistencys like 'ill kill him, to teach him a lesson' and jason instead of the small guild rep saying his own name 3 times.
The thing that really bothered me was how they tracked stats after roy was introduced into the book. They didnt tally the stat gains and course times in the agility levels, which makes the parts where jason sacrifices stats a bit meaningless. even if I assume that each level gives 10 stat points, it dosent make it clear if its really the case.
The audiobook itself is a bit short when compared with other litrpgs and I cant say that it pulls off any element that is better than other books.

Not great... but something made me keep reading
This story is like a really rough coffee. It isn't as good as it could be, but even though you know you've tasted better you'll still find yourself coming back for more.
Narration is probably the worst part of this story, to the point where if I'd read the book as opposed to listened to it, I might have given a better rating. Voices sound... there's no other word for it, dumb. Female voices are terrible and you can instantly tell if someone is going to be in the story for more than 5 minutes by whether the accent is goofy or the narrator is actually making an effort. There are often weird pauses between voices, making conversation sound stilted.
Storyline is... pretty good, actually. The MC is overpowered so while there's a lot of action, the focus is more on other things that his knowledge and skills allow him to do. It's super interesting. The execution of this unfortunately struggles to keep up. The writing feels juvenile, as if the author hasn't quite come into his chops, with big ideas but little knowledge of how to really make them resonate with the reader - for example, the book starts with a bunch of heroes doing legendary heroics, but I just didn't care because not enough time had been spent on characterization before this happened. And there's no subtlety to the writing. We get told every emotion. "He felt angry. He was sad." You get the idea. Props to the author for the small twist in chapter 1 though. If you do give this story a chance, listen for at least the first 2 chapters.
The writing style for this book is 'Omniscient,' meaning there's a bit of head hopping between characters and even over to bad guys when the mood suits. I'm not a fan of this style of writing, but it's a legitimate technique, if a bit out of style these days. Game mechanics are relatively simple, but interesting. The floors that the MC climbs are varied and enjoyable. Reading this was a bit of a guilty pleasure. There were so many bad points to the story, but I still just wanted to see what would happen next.
So, this isn't a bad story, for all its faults. It's a story best suited, I think, to teens, who might be more forgiving of its problems. I won't be reading book 2, but if I happened to get it for free I probably would, because hey... any coffee is good coffee.
