About this listen

A few months short of his 16th birthday, Danny runs away from home after a huge row with his Mom. After only four hours, everything he owns is stolen at a motorway service station. He is approached by Luke, a 19-year-old on a road trip, supposedly making a video diary. Luke has a huge car and plenty of money, and Danny likes him instantly. But Luke is not what he seems, and everywhere they go a mysterious trail of death follows them. But will Danny learn the truth about Luke before it is too late?©2004 Mark Roberts (P)2005 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd. Thrillers & Suspense

Editorial reviews

Danny Anderson, 15, discovers that freedom from his mum is not the same as freedom from fear in a fast-paced thriller of mystery, deception, murder, and redemption.

Colin Moody, veteran of Australian stage productions and television, captures the scousisms (accent and attitude) of a true Liverpudlian in his performance of Mark Roberts’ work, which was short-listed for Britain’s prestigious 2005 Angus Book Award for young adult novels. Tension begins when, four hours after his last fight with his mother, Danny is picked up by a 19-year-old flush with money and success. It never lets up as people begin to die along a wild road trip through the English countryside, and identifying hero from villain becomes increasingly complex.
