About this listen
Brutally kidnapped and separated in childhood, Tommo and Hawk are reunited at the age of 15 in Hobart Town.
Together they escape their troubled pasts and set off on a journey into manhood. From whale hunting in the Pacific to the Maori Wars of New Zealand, from the Rocks in Sydney to the miners' riots at the goldfields, Tommo and Hawk must learn each other's strengths and weaknesses in order to survive.
Along the way, Hawk meets the outrageous Maggie Pye, who brings love and laughter into his life. But the demons of Tommo's past return to haunt the brothers. With Tommo at his side, Hawk takes on a fight against all odds to save what they cherish most.

Phenomenal!
Holy heck I could barely breath for the last half hour! I can scarcely write the accolades for this book, such is my urgency to get to the next! But I’m making myself as Tommo and Hawk - the second book of the Solomon trilogy - is nothing short of a masterpiece! What an emotional rollercoaster! Highs and lows and heart wrenching moments all intertwined in the most skin crawling history lesson you’ll ever hear!
Mr Humphrey Bower’s performance is phenomenal. He brings every character and every scene to life in such a way that is so believable and real that you feel like you’re seeing and hearing it all with your own eyes and ears!
There is so much more I could say to recommend these books but I must dash so I can get to the next! Xxx

Riveting cant wait for book 3
Exciting, funny, brave and a wonderful story. Make sure you've read book 1 first. History is real and factual - a great melding of fact and fiction. Narrator does a wonderful job, clear and spell binding. Helps me understand my NZ history, and the settling of Australia.

Historical relevance
Another great book from the late great Bryce. How awesome would it be if they made this into a tv series!

Intriguing
The story is intriguing and pulls you in for more. My only suggestion would be to ensure the person reading the books learns to pronounce names, places and language. I feel it would give some honour to the people it speaks about. I refer to the chapters in NZ and the Maori people.

Awake on every word.
Not at all disappointed, the story kept my attention to 100%. Now, can't wait to start Solomon's song book...the last of these trilogy. Humphrey Bower is the best narrator ever! I could always follow who is talking in the story because of the changes of his voice tones and accent etc. Brilliant ♥️

Bryce Courtenay, wonderous Humphrey Bower, maestro
I am a late bloomer to the wondrous world of Bryce Courteney and was absolutely mesmerized by his ability to take you on a deeply personal journey with each of his characters. The level of research that must have gone into these books is evident in their rich, accurate depiction of the times. Book 2 equals the quality of the first. Special accolades go to Humphrey Bower, who is, without a doubt, the best narrator of all time. Is there any accent he can’t master? He is a true maestro of his craft, bringing the story to life in a way that makes listening a heartfelt experience. I often found myself laughing out loud and shedding tears on my car trips, all due to the powerful storytelling and the incredible depth he brings to every word. The combination of Bryce Courtney’s brilliance and Bower’s narration has made this a journey I won’t soon forget.
