About this listen

Alexander Kinloch, artist, has worked out a good pattern for his life. His home is a small bothy on a remote mountain in Scotland; he paints on commission, from which he derives both pleasure and a decent income; he lives alone and likes it. One day, however, Alexander's peace is violently shattered when he returns home to find a group of strangers waiting for him. Afer a scuffle, he is left for dead with only the wind and the words "Where is it?" ringing in his ears. And the days that follow contain more danger than he could ever have imagined.©1996 Dick fFancis (P)2014 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Detective Suspense Traditional Detectives Mystery Fiction

Wonderful story, poor audio

The quality of the audio unfortunately detracted from this wonderful story of loyalty, courage and endurance.

To The Hilt

The phraseology and clever plotting was riveting. What a gifted author- or perhaps as time reveals -a team.

Scorcher

Dick Francis has written many great books! This story is one of my favourites. You are drawn into the story straight away literally, a very good read! Highly recommend it. Enjoy.

Hiding treasure is a dangerous game

This has always been a favourite of mine.

Alexander Kinloch might be a painter who lives in the isolated and wild Scottish Highlands but he’s also a dedicated and loyal son who's bravery, intelligence and nerve are tested to the limit when he finds himself pitted against violent and deadly embezzlers who've stolen his step-father’s company fortune and facing down the formidable Zoe Lang who’s determined to wrest a treasured family heirloom and hand it to the nation.

Despite not being a painter himself, Dick Francis’ books on creating art have an authenticity that's both deep and raw.

I wish the quality of the audio was 100% but having listened to this version as a child in its original cassette format I don't want anyone but Tony Britton as my narrator.
