About this listen

Signs of life have been found on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon.

A group of visionaries led by NASA’s Paula Benacerraf plan a daring one-way mission that will cost them everything. Taking nearly a decade, the billion-mile voyage includes a ‘slingshot’ transit of Venus, a catastrophic solar storm, and a constant struggle to keep the ship and crew functioning.

But it is on the icy surface of Titan itself that the true adventure begins. In the orange methane slush, the astronauts will discover the secrets of life’s origins and reach for a human destiny beyond their wildest dreams.

Interesting story ruined by awful narration

I stuck it out for more than half the book but finally gave up due to irritation at the narration. Kevin Kenerly’s read is all wrong. He breaks up sentences in all the wrong places as if he’s seeing commas or dashes that no one else does. He cannot do a British (English) accent at all and should never have tried. I lost count of the words he completely mispronounced including the name of one of the key characters. And his voice work was monotonous for the most part, not differentiating much between characters so they all started to blend into one. I could forgive everything except the weird halting way he read this book. Having just listened to a Ray Porter narration the contrast with Kenerly’s narration of Titan was stark. I think I’ll read the rest of the book. Listen to the sample before you buy.

producers: please insert pauses and chapters

it's so hard to keep track when we're suddenly in a different place and time without warning.
even if the book's chapters are long, there's still obvious scene breaks that should form audiobook chapters.

Titan by Stephen Baxter

One of the best books I have read in the science fixture genre: thought provoking.
