About this listen
Change is afoot at Kings Lake Central police station. A most unexpected new detective inspector takes up his post this Monday morning, and the oldest detective in the place takes a momentous decision.
Around them, other officers are considering their own situations, and even the building itself seems to be facing an uncertain future. But life and death go on, nevertheless, and by lunchtime someone will make a grim discovery on the Norfolk saltmarshes. A stranger seems to have suffered a slow and agonizing death out there.
As the team from Kings Lake uncover his story, they reveal another, much older one with its origins far back in the previous century. In the tide that governs the affairs of men, it seems, love and loss, betrayal and revenge are timeless themes. Fans of Colin Dexter, P. D. James, and Ruth Rendell have all found much to enjoy in DC Smith's previous investigations.

Laughter and tears
I am absolutely loving the DC Smith series. Robert Galbraith is a talented author who is well versed in police procedure. His characters come alive, each with their own personality with many thanks to Gildart Jackson who voices each with such expertise. Smith's dry humour makes me laugh out loud thanks to Galbraith's intelligent wit.

I love this author and narrator
Grainger is a accomplished author and presents Smith as a kind and wise detective who often masks his nature with a wry sense of humour
The narrator conveys this so well. I found I increased the speed of narration to 1.2 and this worked fine
I love this series and have binged them back to back to get the intertwining themes across the books while reading the main story in each book
Laughed out loud at the humour and feeling sad as Smiths retirement looms
Highly recommended

I love everything about this.
The crime is almost secondary to the background story from which it evolved.
The struggle is real in the world of technological advancement, and not more so than for those engaged In humanities based services & professions.

Book 7
I really am enjoying this series. I love the DC character, especially his sense of humour and sarcasm. In spite of what others have said I really like the reader and feel that his style has make DC Smith real for me. I will be sad when I have finished the series.

I do love that policeman
I really love these stories. They are funny, emotional and full of characters
Only one negative they are a bit long winded. Could be edited slightly. Still I love them.

Fascinating story...
Once I got used to the narration style of Gildart Jackson, I relaxed into the story and enjoyed it. I especially loved the cultured and somewhat pedantic nature of DC Smith and his gentle ways.
an enjoyable new discovery.
