I found it very emotional and brought tears to my eyes. loved the characters' storyline with a great narration left me thinking about it long after I had finished.

Disturbing but good

It followed a different story line than the previous books but I could not wait to get to the end! it was relentless, stressful and unpredictable and drew me in, I carried this feeling of sadness around with me all day, but that's what a great read does to you! Can't wait for the next installment.

Loved it

i've always enjoyed DCI Darke's escapades, even though her past traumas have caused her to make errors. The premise of this series seems to be that South Yorkshire police carry on regardless with tiny, persecuted teams getting there in the end. On the plus side, Michael Woods created a good team to work with.

But what happened here? Did he get so bored he wanted to blow them all up and start again? It now seems that ALL the main characters have experienced multiple, severe traumas and unbearable losses - or else been savagely wiped out.

You have to give full credit for propulsive story telling - but there is so much going on here that it strains credibility at times.

True to form, when the worst serial slaughter in the history of British policing comes to Sheffied, taking down half the team, South Yorkshire homicide struggle on with an inexperienced DI running the show with a couple of even more inexperienced DCs. Apparently the PM is briefed, but it occurs to noone that serious help is required.

i have ploughed on with subsequent books but i kind of wish the author would lay off and let them just solve crimes.

Gone too far this time?

The story line was rubbish, I would hope the police would be more professional than the ones in this story.

Police would not go into situations when there is an armed team on standby.
