About this listen
Calista Langley operates an exclusive "introduction" agency in Victorian London, catering to respectable ladies and gentlemen who find themselves alone in the world. But now a dangerously obsessed individual has begun sending her trinkets and gifts suitable only for those in deepest mourning - a black mirror, a funeral wreath, a ring set with black jet stone. Each is engraved with her initials.
Desperate for help and fearing that the police will be of no assistance, Calista turns to Trent Hastings, a reclusive author of popular crime novels. Believing that Calista may be taking advantage of his lonely sister, who has become one of her clients, Trent doesn't trust her. Scarred by his past, he's learned to keep his emotions at bay, even as an instant attraction threatens his resolve. But as Trent and Calista comb through files of rejected clients in hopes of identifying her tormentor, it becomes clear that the danger may be coming from Calista's own secret past - and that only her death will satisfy the stalker....

Great story, Grating performance
Well-written who-dunnit, However, the performance was mostly ordinary, and sometimes assaultive on the ears. A few characters had constantly high- pitched, indignant voices. The story was good enough to persist with listening, and a minor improvement was achieved when I slowed the narration speed down. I don

A perfectly Woven Story
Wow! I was kept guessing throughout this narrative. In the end it all came together so well. I could readily identify with the asylums having worked in a couple of them. However, this wasn’t in the same period as the story has been written. Nowadays many former patients are left to fend for themselves with many of these institutions closed down. However, in this tale’s case the journey is different and it’s well worth listening to to see for yourselves. After all, I wouldn’t want to spoil your ride through this narration.

Who-dunnit romance
This story has an interesting plot and unfolds well. There are moments where discussions felt laboured - particularly the group discussion at the end after the truth had been uncovered. I listened to the narrator at x1.05 and although I though her voice nice, didn’t particularly enjoy the characterisations. She could’ve been more creative and varied with her reading.
