About this listen
Being the Chosen One is supposed to be awesome, right?
Well, that's what most people assume. Most of them haven't tried it yet.
Devon Walker really just wanted to power level and collect some loot along the way. But yeah. Things in Relic Online just haven't turned out like she'd hoped.
Recently, she completed an epic quest line to reawaken ancient magic, but so far it's been anti-climactic. That would be sucky enough, but unless she figures something out, the game world - including her NPC friends who she believes are just alive as her human guildmates - is pretty much going to die in fire.
Fortunately, being the Chosen One means she's still gotta fix things.
So yeah, no pressure.

Great story, awful pacing
I've loved each previous installment of this series. The narration is great as always and the actual story is as engaging as ever but the pacing really destroys the flow and had me skipping large chunks of the book.
This situation repeats itself many times (no spoilers):
Devon has an important conversation/decision/plot point.
Devon arrives at given plot point
Author spends 10-15mins describing literally anything other than the plot point...
At one point a conversation with about 3 lines of dialogue in it spent a good 5mins describing Devon's waffles...
Still worth a read as I'm really hoping the pace picks up again in subsequent books!

Consistently enjoyable
After six books in the series, I was unsure as to whether the high quality of writing, story, and character development would be maintained. I should not have worried. When I found myself not enjoying certain aspects of the book, I grew worried. However, I realised that I was embodying the emotions of the characters who were suffering. Really powerful stuff and a great book. I eagerly await the next masterpiece.
