About this listen
There's a madman dog beside me, and the hounds of memory ahead of us. It's love and beasts and wild mistakes, and regret, but never to change things...
What happens when the Zusaks open their family home to three big, wild, pound-hardened dogs - Reuben, a wolf at your door with a hacksaw; Archer, blond, beautiful, deadly; and the rancorously smiling Frosty, who walks like a rolling thunderstorm?
The answer can only be chaos: there are street fights, park fights, public shamings, property trashing, bodily injuries, stomach pumping, purest comedy, shocking tragedy, and carnage that needs to be seen to be believed ... not to mention the odd police visit at some ungodly hour of the morning.
There is a reckoning of shortcomings and failure, a strengthening of will, but most important of all, an explosion of love - and the joy and recognition of family.
From one of the world's great storytellers comes a tender, motley and exquisitely written memoir about the human need for both connection and disorder; a love letter to the animals who bring hilarity and beauty - but also the visceral truth of the natural world - straight to our doors and into our lives, and change us forever.

Beware your heart!
Beautiful, honest, and both heart warming and heart breaking.
An emotional journey of dog and human love. I laughed and I cried and I am better for reading it.

Tears with a smile
As a dog lover I knew this was going to be a rough read. I was definitely teary and yes openly crying at points. Although Marcus has a way of writing that didn’t leave a smile breaking across my face far behind.
Amazing.

Honesy and true.
I've never owned a dog. Despite this fact, Zusak gave me the raw and emotional experience of loving an animal and making them a part of your story. A beautiful story.

Great story for dog lovers
Probably not a book I would normally have read but went to an author event and was keen to listen to the book. Some laughs, some tears but it was an enjoyable listen.

Rescue Dogs
I didn't dislike this book and I listened to the end, but I did feel that some of the behaviours Marcus and his family tolerated were wrong. yes, these were troubled dogs when the family took each on but dogs that go for other dogs.. not on. Dogs that bite people. no. Even if the victims are forgiving.I felt it was irresponsible.
I really thought his dogs needed professional help, as well as the Zusak family love.

Not for me
Just not enjoying this at all. I’ve owned many dogs, I get what he’s saying and the love he feels. But I thought the book would be different. Have stuck it out for 2 hours, but that’s all I can do. Will be returning title. Sorry
